FIVE INPRINT POETS

Five Inprint Poets (2003), our second book, is a collection of work by poets James Adams, Stan Crawford, Thad Logan, Varsha Shah, and Elizabeth Wallace. These talented poets met editor Carolyn Tourney Florek through Inprint workshops taught by poet and research pathologist Dr. Michael Lieberman, who contributed the foreword.

Poet Lorenzo Thomas writes that this book “is moving, amusing, and refreshingly relevant poetry for this moment. From James Adams’ Hopkinsesque wordplay and wit, Thad Logans’s elegant engagement with memory, and Varsha Shah’s ability to elevate the daily round in eloquent transcriptions; to the delightfully direct music of Elizabeth Wallace, Stan Crawford’s bold focus on the things that really count in our lives—here is a quintet of poetic voices whose songs are necessary and beautiful.”

“From the very first lines of the first poem by Adams to the last lines by Wallace, which Carolyn Florek has so thoughtfully selected and arranged, one senses [Wallace] Stevens’ love of language, his inventiveness and precision, his struggle with how the two worlds are related… I have been privileged as the leader of an Inprint poetry workshop for the past several years to learn from these poets. They have enriched me as a person and a poet. They bring an immersed reflectiveness about the real world that is held, if not uniquely then most touchingly, in the mind of the practitioner/poet. Now, reader, you can share my good fortune.”

-- From the Foreword by Michael Lieberman, author of Remnant

“Welcome to this collection of five decidedly different poets and their distinct worlds. Savor the pleasures of Varsha Shah’s bi-cultural world with its precise and haunting imagery, Elizabeth Wallace’s powerful resonances of a remembered cultural and creative heritage, and Stan Crawford’s eloquent lyrics speaking to the manifold intricacies of being a father and a beloved in today’s uncertain world.”

-- Sarah Cortez, author of How to Undress a Cop

“This superb ‘metropolitan’ anthology showcases the work of five Houston poets with names perhaps not yet well known to Houston readers. And that is a pity - as these five poets ooze smart talent. With styles ranging from the delightfully rhyming wit of James Adams to the calmly accurate descriptive skill of Elizabeth Wallace, Five Inprint Poets collectively states: enjoy.”
